Movement Re-Education
The amount of support your body has will change the amount of control your body needs to exert to maintain its position. Poor motor control can be the cause of injuries. This poor movement pattern is not optimal for maintaining healthy joints and balanced muscles, so over time, these muscles wear down. At Motion Stability we do a thorough assessment to determine what patterns of movement might be contributing to your injury, pain, or less than optimal performance. We then teach you how to correct these patterns so you can optimize your function and performance and decrease your pain.
Dry Needling

Dry needling is an invasive procedure in which a solid filament needle is inserted into the skin and muscle directly at a myofascial trigger point. Physical therapists utilize dry needling in the treatment of myofascial pain.
Sports-Specific Training

Oftentimes the patient is rehabilitated from their injury or pain state and then discharged. However, the patient has not been conditioned to return to their occupation or back to playing competitively or recreationally. Many times, the work or sport movements are what originally caused the problem in the first place. At Motion Stability we focus on returning the patient so that they are performing optimally for their sport or work to prevent re-injury.
Manual Therapy

Manual therapy are hands on techniques used by our physical therapists to assess and treat movement dysfunction in the body. It includes a detailed assessment of the muscles, joints, fascia and nerves as well manually applied movement techniques such as joint mobilization, myofascial release, soft tissue mobilization and nerve mobilization to treat excessive and restricted movement. The therapists at Motion Stability have all taken post-graduate courses in orthopedic manual therapy.
Modalities

Given the right clinical presentation, the use of modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound and other interventions are appropriate to calm pain, muscle guarding, and promote healing. Our physical therapists utilize modalities in the appropriate time of your pain presentation.
Taping

Motion Stability is trained in various taping techniques to help facilitate, inhibit, or support musculoskeletal conditions.
Neurodynamics
Therapists at Motion Stability are specially trained in using nerve mobilization called ‘neurodynamics’ as a treatment approach to address nerve related pain and injuries. Neurodynamics is the integration of the mechanics and physiology of the nervous system in the manual treatment of neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Conditions Treated
Upper Extremity Pain
TMJ
Temporomandibular disease, or irritation of the temporomandibular joint, is a common ailment affecting more than 10 million people in the United States. Physical Therapy can be beneficial in treating TMD by addressing postural causes and improving movement of the jaw.
Headaches
Two-thirds of the population will suffer from headaches. 15%-20% of headaches can be attributed to vascular origins; the remaining are attributed to a wide variety of other causes, including tension, posture, hormones, psychological factors, and trauma (concussion/whiplash).
Neck Pain
Neck pain is a very common ailment with many potential causes. The overall prevalence of neck pain in the general population is approximately 23%, with many patients going on to experience chronic pain lasting longer than one year.
Shoulder Pain
The shoulder joint is a highly mobile joint with several different components. The shoulder blade, clavicle, rotator cuff, and humerus are components of the shoulder joint, and might be related to the cause of shoulder pain. Estimates say that 15-25% of people are affected by shoulder pain.
Elbow Pain
Temporomandibular disease, or irritation of the temporomandibular joint, is a common ailment affecting more than 10 million people in the United States. Physical Therapy can be beneficial in treating TMD by addressing postural causes and improving movement of the jaw.
Lower Extremity Pain
Hip Pain
Studies show that about 19% of people over the age of 65 report having hip pain. Whether treating pain or function in younger people, increasing mobility and strength in older populations, or providing rehabilitation following a joint replacement, physical therapy can often be beneficial for people with hip pain.
Knee Pain
Organizations such as the Arthritis Foundation support exercise programs as the best non-pharmacological way to improve knee pain for people with arthritis. This approach is further enhanced by manual therapies performed by highly trained physical therapists, and can greatly reduce pain and disability.
Foot & Ankle Pain
Foot and ankle pains are common and affect many different populations, including children, older adults, and athletes. Research has demonstrated that ankle pain is experienced by up to 19% of people with arthritis and accounts for as much as 25% of all sports-related injuries.
Low Back Pain
Back pain is common, sometimes debilitating. Approximately 80% of individuals will experience it sometime during their lifetime. More than one-third of adults say low back pain affects their ability to engage in tasks of daily living, and sleep.
General
Balance
Balance and vestibular disorders are very common among the general population, especially with aging. For those with vestibular disorders, skilled vestibular rehabilitation performed by a physical or occupational therapist is the current standard of care.
Mobility
Mobility limitations are common, especially in aging populations. Regarding mobility limitations in elderly people, the Journal of the American Medical Association states, “physical therapy is particularly beneficial when introducing resistance and balance exercises, as well as making necessary environmental changes to increase safety and mobility.”
Againg
With aging, there are normal changes that occur, including slight decreases in strength, endurance, bone density and cardio respiratory fitness. Sometimes these normal changes are accelerated by a sedentary lifestyle, injury, or change in living situation. Research shows that physical therapy is a safe and effective way to increase mobility and quality of life.
Specific
Nerves
Nerves are commonly misunderstood as many people do not realize that they are a connective tissue, similar to a muscle, tendon, or ligament. Just as there are treatments for a muscle strain or a ligament sprain, there are physical therapy techniques to treat nerve pain. Motion Stability has specialized training in nerve rehabilitation called ‘neurodynamics’ to treat the nervous system and its related parts.
Rehabilitation
Motion Stability provides the undivided attention to work with you during your post-surgical rehabilitation. We will coordinate with your surgeon on the proper guidelines and progressions following your surgery to help you achieve the motion, strength and quality of life you want to achieve with your successful surgery.
Pelvic Health
Pelvic Health Physical Therapy involves evaluation and treatment of problems affecting the bowel, bladder, sexual health, and other concerns related to the pelvis. Pelvic Floor Physical Therapists are trained to evaluate and treat these problems by thoroughly assessing joint dysfunction, scar tissue, neural mobility, soft tissue tension, core coordination, and other muscle imbalances.
Obstetrics
An obstetric physical therapist is trained to examine pregnant and postpartum individuals who are experiencing pain or dysfunction related to pregnancy(ies). The trained physical therapist will assess for common pregnancy-related conditions including hip, low back, tailbone, and pelvic pain.
